Third Sunday of Easter– Road to Emmaus

The Gospel reading this week focuses on the Road to Emmaus Luke 24:13-35.

This post resurrection story sees two disciples travelling 11 kilometres to Emmaus.  They meet a stranger (Jesus) and they were amazed that this stranger did not know about the crucifixion of Jesus.  The stranger explains how the death and resurrection of Jesus, Messiah, fulfils God’s plan for us.  It is only when he breaks bread with them that they recognise Jesus has been with them all along.    The disciples rush back to Jerusalem to tell the other disciples that they have seen the risen Jesus.

Prayer from Children’s Liturgy by Cafod.  Christ Jesus, our light and our guide, as we travel through life open our eyes to recognise you in everyone that we meet. Open our hearts to share generously with each other. Amen.
